Product Overview
Sterling Chemicals, Inc. is a North American producer of selected petrochemicals used to manufacture a wide array of consumer goods and industrial products. We manufacture all of our petrochemicals products at our facility located in Texas City, TX. Our primary products are acetic acid and plasticizers.
Acetic Turnaround
Sterling Chemicals began a six-week turnaround of the entire Texas City facility on June 3, 2009. In addition to the routine maintenance of the acetic acid and plasticizers production units, Sterling is undertaking several capital projects including the installation of a new product distillation column and upgraded computer control system in the acetic acid unit, a new process wastewater management system and several other smaller improvement projects. The total expenditure for this major turnaround is approximately $26M capital and $3M expense. The work in the acetic acid unit will result in an incremental expansion of production capacity.
