I am tremendously proud and privileged to serve as Sterling Chemicals' President and CEO.  This is an extraordinary time in our company's history, and I'm fortunate to lead an organization that is special in so many ways.  It is an exciting time to be here.

Sterling Chemicals is exceptionally well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities ahead. Our accomplishments in 2009 include:

 

• Completing an extensive turnaround on our acetic acid plant on schedule and on budget, resulting in an increased maximum sustainable annual production rate of approximately 1.3 billions pounds per year and the ability to extend the interval between unit turnarounds.

 

• Installing a new pipeline to the nearby Oiltanking terminal which will result in reduced acetic acid distribution costs.

 

• Completing a significant capital project to improve our handling of plant waste water.

 

• Implementing a variety of self-help improvement projects that will improve ongoing cash flow.

 

However, no organization can afford to rest on its laurels.  Every day offers a chance to exploit opportunities and to rectify weaknesses.  Every plan we make, every action we implement, is driven towards:
