Environmental Management

We utilize robust environmental management systems, and have achieved significant emission reductions. Sterling Chemicals is committed to conducting business in a manner that is protective of the environment, and our goal is to reduce incidents with environmental impact to zero. The compensation of all of our management team and all of our employees is linked to our environmental performance.

We reduced our NOx and VOC emissions between 2000 and 2007 by 66% and 85%, respectively, and further reductions were achieved in 2008. We use a rigorous yet efficient project management system to ensure that environmental projects are implemented expeditiously, and to provide focused review of all projects in order to be sure that all regulatory and permitting requirements are satisfied. We strive to continuously reduce environmental incidents and emissions through the use of a robust incident reporting and investigation system, and through continual system improvements, such as our environmental compliance database and our energy reduction task force. We enjoy excellent relationships with regulatory agencies as a result of our thorough and accurate reporting and communications, and candid discussion and resolution of any issues. Positive relationships with our surrounding community are promoted through regular neighborhood dinner meetings and community involvement.
