Emergency Preparedness
We employee a highly trained emergency fire and medical crew, and routinely execute drills and exercises to maintain readiness for responses to injuries and incidents. Our emergency response and hurricane plans are regularly evaluated and improved.
Sterling Chemicals belongs to the Local Emergency Planning Committee for Galveston County, and the Texas City Industrial Mutual Aid System whereby local industry emergency response teams assist each other in the event of a large-scale incident. The Emergency Response Improvement Team works to assure continuous improvement in all facets of emergency response, including training, equipment and planning. In February 2009, Sterling Chemicals’ team won 1st place in the “Ultimate Challenge” emergency response competition held during the 2009 Industrial Fire, Safety and Security Conference in Houston, Texas.
Our Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) covers events such as fires, spills and natural disasters, and drills are conducted regularly. Our hurricane plan was extensively reviewed and improved after Hurricane Ike in 2008.
